Nitric Oxide Supplements, Produced By Neogenis, Possible Benefits and Risks.

By Lucy Cho

So you've been hearing about nitric oxide, produced by companies like Neogenis, for the last little while. It's the new buzz word in health and fitness. It may seem from the all things that you hear about it that it is the miracle cure to anything that ails you. Suffering from cardiovascular disease? A nitric oxide booster will help with that. Have erectile dysfunction? Take some nitric oxide. Having any trouble with memory loss? The solution is increased nitric oxide. Okay, really, it isn't the answer to everything that might go wrong with your body, but research does seem to support some pretty impressive claims when it comes to nitric oxide.

There are some pretty amazing claims in recent years about the benefits of nitric oxide, but are they true? When considering this, let's look at three aspects of nitric oxide. First of all, why is nitric oxide even necessary to the body? Second, what are the benefits to a nitric oxide booster? And finally, what are the disadvantages, if any, to increasing nitric oxide production through the use of supplements?

In order to understand nitric oxide supplements, such as those offered by Neogenis, better, you have to have a basic understanding of what nitric oxide is and what it does. Nitric oxide is a gas, naturally produced by the body. This molecule is made up of a nitrogen and an oxygen atom. But something happens as we age and the body produces less and less nitric oxide and, in turn, our body ages. Nitric oxide production and distribution is regulated by the thalamus and distributed to the body through the circulatory system. When we get older and produce less nitric oxide naturally, taking a supplemental form of nitric oxide can return nitric oxide levels to "normal" and help our bodies to stay young and healthy.

Okay, so we need nitric oxide. What are the benefits to taking a supplement, such as those offered by Neogenis? Research has shown that nitric oxide is a powerful vasodialator, meaning that it causes the blood vessels to relax. This has a host of benefits because it improves circulation. Benefits include: increased brain function, improved attention, greater oxygen transfer, and more energy. Other benefits to getting nitric oxide levels in the optimal range include heart health issues (such as hypertension), circulatory problems, regulating blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, and a range of other health problems.

What are the drawbacks to taking a nitric oxide supplement? The most obvious, and maybe only real drawback, is cost. If you were to look on the Neogenis website, you would find that nitric oxide supplements carry a hefty price tag. The cost is $59.95 for 30 lozenges. That's $2 per lozenge. Consider that the recommended dosing is two lozenges per day, and you are looking at a cost of $4 per day for the supplements. Initially, that may seem like a pretty penny, but if you consider that you could replace that amount by drinking water instead of soda or omitting your morning coffee, it might seem a little more manageable. (Not to mention the health benefits involved in drinking more water and not drinking coffee!) And, if it reduces the cost of prescription medications that you might not have to take anymore, the cost may well balance out.

A nitric oxide booster, such as those manufactured by Neogenis, may well have more advantages than disadvantages.
